Indonesia visits Italy

Sary, an RYS Indonesia (RYSI) alumni since 2004, accompanied by alumni-mate Ocit, went to Palermo, Italy to participate in a Center of Studies and European Initiatives (CESIE) project called Demoscratos. They took part as job shadowers and demonstrated three RYS best practices with the many international youths present.

During the best-practice sharing, RYSI offered concepts about interreligious morning meditation exchange and team building games, both which were well received. "This is something new for us, and we like it," said Bianca, one of the participants from Palermo. Eighteen year old Maria, agreed. "It's a good practice for us." Ali Gohar from Justpeace International commented, "RYS meditation is a good practice that we can bring to Pakistan." And Madhu from Jeevan Rekha , India said, "It's very nice to see diverse people discussing together."

RYSI also shared about the importance of reflection, not simply a written reflection - RYSI participants demonstrated a "blue ribbon" reflection using a flower exchange as a symbol of gratitude. "Indonesia's reflection activity is wonderful and touched our hearts. We cried together," commented Marco, one of CESIE volunteer.

On our last day, we drove to the magnificently beautiful beach of Trapetto.

For all, the Italian program was a new and amazing experience, not to be forgotten. For the participants, it was one of the best learning experiences in their lives. They hope this "relationship work" will always continue.
