For the past few years, RYS has held projects in Nepal. This year we are glad to inform you that our project will be held in Gorkha, from August 9 -15, with the theme "Peace & Unity Through Interfaith Cooperation." Gorkha is a picturesque hill-town with a rich history. It is situated on a small mountain at the height of 3,500 feet and offers a magnificent view of the Himalayan Peaks. It was the home of King Prithvi Narayan Shah, who unified the Kingdom of Nepal during the eighteenth century.
The RYS Nepal 2009 participants will engage in community-based volunteer work, an educational workshop, interfaith and community visits, cultural programs and morning devotion. During the RYS project, we will work with the local government and the sub-municipality in creating a waterway and building a community hall, as well as renovating the community club of Gorkha.
We invite young men and woman from all faith backgrounds, between the ages of 18-35, to attend this unique service-learning project. During the project we will provide lodging, food and land transportation. Participants will be responsible for their travel to the project location and a nominal participant fee.
